CSEG Meritorious Service Award Recipient Dale Kary

Dale KaryDale Kary began his forty year doodlebug career in 1948, with Robert H Ray Co., a gravity meter contractor. He started in Drumheller as a rodman and became a gravity meter recorder and operator. He worked for SubSurface Exploration from 1951 to 1954, returned to Robert H Ray in 1954 and joined Nance Exploration, a predecessor of Teledyne Exploration in 1956. He stayed with Teledyne until 1969 when he moved to the data trading industry by purchasing an interest in Exploration Data Exchange. Dale founded Kary Data Consultants in 1971. He is president of this company, which has offices in Calgary, Billings, Denver and Houston. His three sons are active in the company.

Dale has served the CSEG as Doodlebug Golf Chairman, Scholarship Chairman and Convention Finance Chairman. He has been a member of the Stastics Committee, Luncheon Ticket Sales Committee and the CSEG/ CSPG/APEGGA Liaison Committee. He served on the Finance Committee for the SEG Convention in 1977.

Kary Data has contributed generously to scholarships in both Canada and the United States. Dale's own long career in the geophysical service business and the great respect that he commands because of the way he conducts his business have certainly helped contribute to the stability and maturity of the geophysical service business in Canada.
