Scholarships
CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund
Established in 1970, the CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund awards annual scholarships to deserving geophysics students from universities across Canada. These scholarships are funded primarily through generous corporate and individual donations, and also through interest generated by the memorial trust fund for Rob Shugg.
In order to qualify for an award, students must be: enrolled at a Canadian university in an academic program leading to a geophysics career in industry, teaching or research.
In 2012, the Foundation introduced a new scholarship in response to the emergence of geoscience technology programs across the country. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited educational institution in Canada leading to a degree in geoscience technology (oil and gas, mining, etc.).
In 2013, the Foundation introduced new university entrance scholarships, aimed at graduateing high school students. Depending on applications, usually one scholarship is awarded to a student who is enrolled in a science-based Canadian university programme (not necessarily geophysics), and a second designated scholarship is awarded to children of CSEG members entering a Canadian university (no specialization required).
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, financial need, interest in geophysics, extra-curricular activities, leadership roles and references.
