Course Description
This course aims to explain and demonstrate the concepts behind probabilistic seismic inversion with particular focus on inversion for facies probabilities. The course runs over four, half-day sessions and is divided into three parts: the first on general probabilistic concepts, the second on establishing a framework for seismic inversion for facies probabilities and the third showing how these concepts are implemented in a mature commercial inversion application. Excel-based exercises are used throughout the course to demonstrate and reinforce concepts.
Target Audience
The course is intended for experienced geophysics who, with perhaps a limited background in Bayesian probabilistic methods, are looking to understand some of the methods behind the new generation of commercial probabilistic inversion applications. The course may also be of value for those with a stronger background in probabilistic methods wishing to understand how their skills can be applied to the seismic inversion problem.

Biography
Patrick Connolly is a consultant geophysicist specializing in seismic reservoir characterization. He retired from BP in 2015 as Senior Advisor for Geophysical Analysis. His primary occupation now is providing training courses for the industry. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at the School of Earth & Environment, University of Leeds, UK. Patrick was awarded the 2001 SEG Virgil Kauffman Gold Medal for the development of elastic impedance. He was an EAGE Distinguished Lecturer in 2007, an SEG Distinguished Lecturer in 2010 and his presentation Probabilistic seismic inversion using pseudo-wells was awarded the 2017 SEG Best Paper at the Annual Meeting.
