Biography
Graham Carter has lived and worked with seismic data in Europe, Colombia and Canada, and for the last 15 years has specialized in reservoir characterization with a focus on seismic inversion. He believes that the topic of inversion is a fascinating blend of geophysics and geology that continues to evolve in its capability to provide ever greater information from seismic. In addition to many years of geophysics experience, he has an Honours B.Sc. in Geology and is a registered professional geophysicist in Alberta.
Description
This one day course will be of interest to those who have not previously run their own seismic inversion projects, but who would like to understand the components and parameters influencing inversion results. It is applicable to the usage of any inversion software package or inversion approach; and will show how to quality controlling inversions received from others. The course will blend lectures with hands-on inversion software usage that enables students to experiment with how various factors affect the final results.
Topics include:
- The interpretation objectives of running pre or post stack inversion
- A step by step explanation of the inversion workflow
- The similarities and differences between pre and post stack inversion
- The importance of wavelets
- The purpose of a low frequency model
- Comparison of an inversion run in the native depth domain with one run in the traditional time domain
- Methods for quality controlling any inversion.
