Abstract

Beylkin determinants are key to true-amplitude migration. We can use them to construct accurate migration weights for a variety of situations. The first part of this talk will be a tutorial on some basic ideas of Beylkin determinants and how they are used to obtain common simplified migration weights.

The second part of the talk will extend these same ideas to current work in converted-wave migration. This will provide further detail on work presented earlier this year. Illustrations will be drawn from real data.  And, yes, there will be math in this talk, but every effort will be made to clarify its meaning rather than allowing it to obscure.

Biography

Chuck Ursenbach received his education in Chemical Physics, graduating with an honors B.Sc. from the University of Calgary (1987) and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (1992). He did post-doctoral research at Oxford University and the University of Pennsylvania, and was a faculty member at Marquette University. A move back to Calgary in 2000 prompted a career change into geophysics. Since then he has worked in both academia and industry, and is currently employed at Arcis Seismic Solutions.
