Abstract
The December 2000 issue of the RECORDER ran an article entitled "Odyssey of Oil". That article tied in to the Greek convention theme, and was a historical look at some examples of human exploitation of oil in the distant past. This luncheon talk is a continuation of that article, and acts as a bracket to the convention. As part of the June luncheon program, excellent Greek-style convention awards will be handed out to the various winners and recipients.
For the luncheon talk, the oil theme of the December RECORDER article is abandoned, and in its place the Odyssey, the epic voyage as a metaphor for each individual's journey of discovery through life, is used as a loose central theme. A structure similar to the popular BBC TV series "Connections" will be used; we'll start with the convention theme - the Odyssey - and its logo, and then see where it takes us! Many areas of general and scientific interest will be touched on - archaeology, classical literature, remote sensing, politics, anthropology, history, cartography, signal processing, nutrition, geology, optics, navigation, linguistics, and even a tiny bit of seismic!
Biography
Oliver Khun graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1984 with a B.Sc. in Geophysics.
He has worked at Geo-X Systems in Calgary for most of his career, first as a processor and currently as processing manager.
