Abstract
Encana takes a diligent risk-management approach towards understanding and limiting the potential risk for anomalous hydraulic fracturing related induced seismicity in the Kaybob area near Fox Creek, AB. Over the past five years, Encana has continued to build-on recognized industry best practices, advanced strategic technical projects as well as improved its internal operational workflows and protocols to effectively assess, monitor and manage the potential risk for anomalous induced seismicity. Through a Duvernay case study, Encana will demonstrate its risk-management workflow on a recent Kaybob multi-well pad. Learnings to date suggest that induced seismicity risk can be managed through proper risk assessments and management protocols. Continued collaboration between industry, regulators and academia is integral in maintaining public safety, environmental protection and safe operations.
